Dillard University February 10, 2006

New Orleans, Louisiana

This University was founded in 1869 under another name. In 1935 it moved to this campus and became known as Dillard. The enrollment is just over 2200 which makes a nice environment.
It is located in the Gentilly area of New Orleans and suffered over $500 million of damage from flooding following Hurricane Katrina according to University administrators. Classes are presently being held in the New Orleans Hilton Hotel and students, about 1100, are residing there. It is a private, faith based university.

Looks like a beautiful university. Hope they get things fixed in it and learning can continue here vice the hilton!

Such nice contrast. Beautifully composed too, with those branches in the foreground.

The campus, the old oak and the building looks sound. I gather it can be restored but is there a time-table for completion?
PS: Thanks for a Gentilly shot Colleen.

as all the correspondents have said, this is a beautiful B&W capture of this building, using the tree as a frame. I like the commentary as well. has to be a V

Your black and whites keep getting better and better. The view of the fence in the foreground also adds to the image. What a grand building.

Nicely framed by the branches

You have framed this historic place so very well with the cut of the over-hanging tree. The B/W dev. and your words add to to the compositions strength.

Black and white at its best. Excellent shot and narrative. I learn more of your state every time I visit.
