By Bulb Light #1, Shanghai 2005

10:00 pm at Dongjiadu. Under the light of a single bulb, a man grips tightly a bag of telephone cards he has been trying to sell all day. He is tired, his eyes closed as a final act of physical submission. He grips the bag tightly as if it is his livelihood, his life.

An Exercise in Light....

By bulb light you are going to show us the world?? Count me in Kal, my kind of lighting and another fine capture. What really makes this one work for me is the way we see the man holding so tight to that bag...

I've read the caption now, and you were there at the right moment. A split second later and you would have missed it.

I like this image a lot. The light bulb, the big paper, the (tired?) man, the darkness.
It gives a very strong feeling.

OK, so he isn't sleeping, but the eyes are closed and this is a last sigh at the end of a long day! I will do some investigating and leave a caption. Rgds, Kal

Hard to tell what this is. To me, it looks mucho scientific. I agree with Phil. It may need some explanation, or at least a lead.

You could help us appreciate the substance of this fine image, Kal, if you would write a caption offering us context for what he is doing. Seeing this image out of context is to see a man at some kind of work in virtual darkness, alone and seemingly ignored. He seems to be dozing. Yet his product looks complex. This image asks far more questions than it answers. I long to understand him. But I can't.

A simple light bulb can show so much, much more than a studio light. Well done
