I see what you were trying to do here -- to create an oppressive sense of crowding. But claustrophobic mood often does not translate to a void, which is free and mysterious and open. Black represents nothingness, while cramped space is best represented by tightness of frame, tension, and limitation of movement.
The idea was cramped space Phil. The restricted space represented by the light and the remaining darkness. In a sense she is meant to be squeezed in to that small area. I was concerned it was over abstracted too. K
You use abstraction to create a somber mood here, Kal, but I have difficulty discerning the idea you are trying to express. If you are using form here as the subject itself, no idea is needed, just a mood. But if you are trying to tell a story or make a point, the degree of abstraction here has obscured it for me.
