Probus Billon Tetradrachm of Alexandria - year 2 - 277 AD
This morning I played with Helicon Focus again and made this example from a coin that needs to show its edge to be understood. This is reduced from the full size and a combination of obverse and reverse (as I always prefer). This was shot RAW but converted to JPG to ease the pressure on my old computer. Having 5 16bit Tiff's open at once slows me down. This coin lacks the sharpness of the silver I did before (in Assignment: Postprocessing) and Helicon Focus requires sharp points to know what to do. As a result there is some noise here that might not be best. Perhaps I could control some of this with the program options for radius and smoothing but I went for sharpness, perhaps too much? The coin is set at a 45 degree angle and is 19mm in diameter and 3 to 4mm thick.
The five originals that were combined to make the obverse are shown below the merged image. Unfortunately, the small size reductions shown here make the center image look almost as good as the combination. This is not the case when viewing the full size versions. This image is already larger than our list guidelines suggest so you will just have to trust me on that one.
