Used Mikel's description to achieve this affect. Thanks, Mikel!

Please let me know what you think. This is going to be a Christmas gift for an "artsy" Grandma. She requested a collage of the grandchildren's eyes. I didn't really know how I was going to do it until I saw Mikel's entry in the last challenge. Once I saw this effect, I knew I wanted to give it a try.

My kiddos are (top to bottom) 7 yr old son, 5 yr old daughter, & 2 yr old daughter.

Canon EOS 20D ,Sigma 18-50mm f/2.8 EX DC
1/30s to 1/40s f8.0 at 50mm iso800 with flash full exif

other sizes: small medium original auto

Hi Jeannie. You bought out the unique details of each of their eyes very nicely. The youngest sure does have the most beautiful unique feature I've ever seen. It's rather interesting how some babies and little kid's eyes change color while they grow.

Sounds painful, and mehopes the epidural lasted long enough. If so, I hope your husband tipped the anesthesiologist. They are some of the most under-appreciated people on the planet. --Mr. Biscuit

Thanks, Mr. Biscuit. You are right -- I've had triplets. It just took me 5 years to complete the birthing process... LOL -- Jeannie

Techno - We had Christmas with that side of the family this last Saturday. She did love it!! She had originally started asking for an "eye" picture about a year ago. She was pleased that I *finally* followed through. :)

You are right about the eye coloring. I did adjust the levels a bit to bring out the color. This really made the eyes pop on the final prints, but they didn't look freaky looking. They were complimented well by a bronze frame.

As far as our youngest right eye (left on pic), that isn't because of the adjustments. That is how her eye really is. It is very dark (almost black) brown for 2/3 of the eye & the hazel/green mix for the rest. Our middle daughter never really had this affect, but our son use to. I was so disappointed when his left eye (right on pic) lost its "pie slice" look. He use to have very dark brown segments at 1 & 4 o'clock. This is a very unique characteristic that our kiddos have, but it seems to fade with age.

This is a great idea! Grandma will surely be proud. (*) The update of the middle shot works but I cant help notice there is something different about the eye coloring this time around. All three where naturally brown last time... in the bottom photo , the right eye (left one in the photo) looks a bit strange in color.

Great concept and delivery. Looking at the eye color, my guess is these folks swim in the same gene pool...

I am just honored that you wanted to use my process, and absolutely thrilled to see how well it turned out. A quick idea for the final gift: Get a smiling set, and perhaps a third expression for all three and then have a 3x3 mixed grid.

Thanks Mikel, Armin, & Ann. I just updated the photo to include a new middle shot. My 5 year old was previously smiling which made her eyes squinted. I think she did much better here! -- Jeannie (jburly)

Wow this is great. What wonderful coloring they all have in their eyes. If I did a family eye collage most would be blue. Works really well with the high key faces.

Thanks, Jeannie, the effect as shown here, is so beautiful!

It's buried in the challenge 56 thread. You can find it here:

Mikel, where do I find the mentioned description?

Beautiful image!!!

Very cool! I have been wanting a brown or hazel eyed model for that effect. I'd say you nailed it perfectly!
