Seat 19?

When is a reservation for seat 19 really a reservation for seat 4? When you are on Midland Mainline trains! Confused? So was I when I turned up at my train at 07.30 today. I'd made a reservation for breakfast but seat 19 wasn't laid up for breakfast. However, the 'chef' explained that the carriage had been put on back to front and so seat 19 was now seat 4. The seat reservation confusion continued as more passengers got on but eventually we all settled down for our 2.5 hour journey and a hearty breakfast. Just at the train approached Bedford we were told that there were 'problems with overhead lines' and the train would have to go slowly for a while. It chugged along slowly for a minute or two before coming to a complete stop. We did eventually arrive and only 20 minutes late. British Trains, don't you just love them?

Taking this photo is the first time I've noticed the penalties on the bottom of the reservation ticket - £200 for removing the ticket and £50 for unauthorised occupation of a reserved seat. I'd better take this ticket back... hahahah.

It's the fine for boarding a train that's going to get me. Up until a couple of months back we could just pay onboard. I'm certain I'll forget coming in from Gatwick one day!

Don't start with that subject!
They are the most expensive unreliable system I ever seen!
Sometimes I think I should laugh... :)

funny story! I did however hear the funniest true story about a man traveling through India...he bought a train tix and heard the trains were notoriously late, so was very surprised when the train showed up 15 minutes later. When he went on, the conductor said it was the wrong reservation- the train presently there was YESTERDAY's train and he would have to wait for the one that he bought the ticket for. 18 hours later he finally got on the right one! ha ha ha
