Homeless, Downtown, Williamsport, Pennsylvania.
“Ernie” I had some time yesterday to walk the streets of Williamsport, Pa. and saw Ernie squatting outside a hotel and banquet facility. I went over and introduced myself to him and we spoke for a while. He was kind enough to tell me a little bit about his situation and then let me take his picture. Ernie is forty-eight years old and from the Williamsport area. He had just been forced out on to the streets the day before because he had been fired from a job as dishwasher. He had missed his rent payment. Ernie said he had spent the past day and night wandering around the streets and squatting in doorways. Now, he said he wants to find a room and a job. I found him a pair of new sneakers from the clothes and things I carry in my car trunk. (Donations from students and community people) I gave him a little cash and then sent him off to get some food. I hope he can make it.
