San Jose Museum of Art on Market Street
San Jose: The pueblo, the first in Upper California, was founded in 1777 and named for Saint Joseph, husband of the Virgin Mary.
Santa Clara: The mission, extablished in 1777, was named for the founder of the Franciscan order of Poor Clares, and the town was later named for the mission.
The county, one of the orginal twenty-seven, was named in 1850.
