Animals sense danger and for several hours during the worst of the winds he did not leave my side. When the wind died down to 40 miles per hour, he fell asleep on my bed and slept for a day. The electrical power was out and remained out for eight days. We had no television, therefore missed seeing the flooding, looting and misery in New Orleans that the rest of the world was seeing. We did have battery operated radios and I would sit in my automobile at least once a day to breathe in air conditioned air. The tropical air following a hurricane is extremely hot with high humidity and just standing still one dripped perspiration.
There was no gasoline available for automobiles, no food or water and martial law had been declared. Not a pleasant time in Louisiana.
