We were up with the larks this morning, despite a late night last night and we have our Spurs to thank for a glorious morning.
If I’m being brutally honest, we often don’t get up that early at weekends and it’s not uncommon for us to be only just up and breakfasted at ten o’clock. Today though we were up at seven thirty and I can’t remember the last time we were up so early on a Sunday. Why? Well because Spurs did something amazing yesterday – they came back from a two-goal deficit to win away at Charlton by scoring three corkers in the late stages of the match. Not to mention the goals and the result (2-3), it took us to third in the table - fantastic - better than last season!
Because we were out last night, we’d not seen the goals on Match of the Day so we set the alarm to get us up in time to watch it this morning. (We were full of bravado after drinking five bottles of wine between four of us last night and in those circumstances anything seems possible.) When the alarm went off, we groaned and tried to ignore it and go back to sleep but I was awake and in dire need of a cup of tea so I got up and DM followed me a couple of minutes later.
We watched the game as the sun came up and it looked like such a lovely day we decided to get dressed and take the dogs for their walk early. We’re so glad we did. We stood on the top of Caradon, in the early morning clear air, wind whipping around us making us cold but as happy as four happy things could be. Neither David nor I ever get tired of the view or the freshness of the air. Dogs? Well they are happy whenever they’re running around letting off steam and playing.
This shot was taken from the edge of the quarry and is hundred year old kit that has been left to rot atop the hill – presumably because it was easier than carting it back down again. I just thought its contrast between our ‘new beginnings’ of yesterday was pretty cool, not to mention the fabulous clouds and clear blue sky.
So, last night’s lovely evening brought about a fantastic morning too – if we’d not got brave(!) through drinking over a bottle of wine each, we’d not have set the clock and not have been up for this.
We walked for miles and when we arrived back home, our co-conspirators from last night were sitting in the sunshine enjoying coffee so we stopped for Fin to play with the dogs for a while and chatted. When we came inside the house it was still before 11am and we still had almost all day to enjoy. Cool.
Last year, my tale was remarkably similar in many ways and the year before, Dave Gorman was being charming and funny!
