Euonymus americana.
Mountain people often called this plant Hearts-a-busting-with-love. When ripe, the bright red fruit breaks open to expose the red-orange seeds. I have often seen the plant in mid summer stripped of its leaves. A park naturalist told me years ago that deer love this plant like kids love bubble gum.
