This is a cropped image of the previous shot, and shows to better effect the line formed by the unmarked throat meeting the lightly marked face. The face overall was buffier than these dark photos suggest, as is the somewhat 'hooded' look which wasn't apparent in the field.
This was the 2nd bird located, (after another bird moved) and has a duller bill than the other bird. The base color of this bird's bill was a very dull orangey, with light dusky mixed in. This isn't shown in many guides, which typically show the olive bill you expect, but is shown nicely in Kaufman's Birds of North America. The bill of the other bird was yellow, but not as bright as I would expect on an adult male (but this is the time of year that the bill of an adult male would be dullest)?
