I sounded negative when I never meant to Alem. Descriptive isn't bad or a negative word, in fact it often is great, and it is often in the eye of the beholder. What we see in a picture is set by who we are and our experiences. What is expressive to one is descriptive to another. I'm glad of this discussion, because I don't want anybody to think that descriptive is a bad word or criticism in this gallery, it is just a different type of picture. See my comment here to a posting I received a while back.http://www.pbase.com/shangheye/image/43752577, andhttp://www.pbase.com/shangheye/image/43681859. Thanks Alem for furthering the discussion.

I am not against descriptive pictures, of course Kal. I do them and enjoy a lot. And, in any case, even behind a postcard - as this picture clearly shows - there might be a "meaning".... Beauty in itself is a meaning as well.
Thanks for the comments. I'm with you Alem, but then this is about what you and I are looking for in the image. Meaning (as you and I want to see in the b&w), or beauty in the colour version. To me beauty is passing (skin deep), it doesn't prompt the imagination, so b&w for me, but there are plenty of images I feel are descriptive, that others like. Your opinion should never be humble!

Hi Kal,
personally, I prefer the bw version. With colors I am unable to get the meaning. The picture becomes merely descriptive to my eyes. In my humble opinion, of course...

superb Visual Impact Kal... normally i like the blackwhite versions..but here both of them lend a unique element to the image.. the BW ofcourse gives a timeless and ancient feel to the wall..
the color here adds character to the image without disturbing the visual... infact the eye is led onward without, paradoxically, leaving the foreground
