I (almost) never get to go out on a ‘school night’ – it’s just too complicated when I arrive home so late and need to get up really early again in the morning. Tonight, as I’m off work at the moment, we were able to take advantage of me being around early enough to go out and have a good time.
We got on the train to Reading, had a meal and went to Bohemian night at the 3Bs in Reading town centre. I have to admit to some trepidation about this because, well, let’s face it, there are lots of people who think they can play and sing but actually can’t. I’m not saying I don’t admire them for being brave enough to get up and have a go because I do, it’s just that I prefer not to spend my evenings listening to strangled cats.
So, the trip went well, made shorter by having a pop lyrics quiz downloaded off the internet to occupy ourselves on the train. Reading has changed at night in recent times. It has become a really lively place with lots of pubs and bars as well as lots of restaurants. I must say that it’s not my favourite place late at night but the pub we were going to was on the right side of town for the station so when we eventually left to catch the train home, we didn’t have to get mixed up with any drunks.
The Bohemian night was actually quite good (apart from the prog rock combo who were, quite frankly, dire but then I have a chronic aversion to that genre of music anyway) and our ‘interest’, Mike was by far the best act of the night. He’s been doing this gig frequently and has built up something of a reputation with the regulars. He’s playing his own material and it’s been going down a storm. We could see why – he’s a talented guy and more so than most that we saw.
This photo is obviously David, my very own bohemian, shot in the restaurant where we ate our supper. The light in there was really nice, low but with spots on the tables. ‘Just lean forward a bit’ said I. ‘OK’ said he. This is the outcome. I like it a lot.
Last year, Ewan and Ginny were wanted and two years ago I was making my little sis jealous.
