Turkey vultures are often observed just sitting around with their wings spread wide. This behavior is knows as the "horaltic pose." The stance is believed to serve multiple functions, such as drying the wings, warming the body and baking off bacteria.
The eucalyptus trees along the shores of Glen Cove serve as roost to several turkey vultures.
