14th August 2005 - life in the fast lane

Joining the M3 on route home from Cornwall this evening. DM driving and a really good, traffic free journey. We've stopped and still matched our best time ever. Cool.

It’s been a busy, busy weekend, with DM spending most of his time in a cupboard under the sink and me charging around taking rubbish to the dump, gardening, cleaning and sorting stuff out. Phew – it’s a rock and roll lifestyle we lead all right.

I’m actually quite pleased with this shot – it’s a 30 second exposure and has some nice ‘stuff’ in it – a signpost (to Basingstoke, that architecturally delightful place….not), a lorry (hence the high up red light trail), red lights to our right which of course in the UK seems mad but we were joining the carriageway from a slip road on the left and a big block of headlights in our faces.

This is about 20 miles from home…..or 180 miles from home, depending on how you look at it. Me? I prefer the latter – Sandhurst feels like a place to stay while working these days.

We’re back in the land of pollution, frenzy and intolerance now – brace yourself, Linda, your nose is back on the grindstone in about ten hours from now. Groan.

I had a strange comment from a Guest on my shot of two years ago - presumeably a pbaser who didn't want to reveal themselves yet is accusing me of copying his/her work. It seems very strangely hostile given that I seem to see two or three of these shots on the meta gallery every week these days so, he/she's right - hardly original but whoever felt the need to tell me so in so hostile a manner should really get a life. Last year, we were stuck on a train for ages somewhere in North London.

Canon EOS 10D
this exceedingly difficult shot was done without the aid of a parachute or other aid to floating - the technique was simple - put camera on dashboard and set shutter speed to 30 seconds, press shutter release and hope the camera doesn't fall of dashboard in less than 30 seconds - really hard work full exif

other sizes: small medium original auto

Ah the A303 filter into the M3... somewhat appropriately next to a place called Dummer... :-)

Great shot Linda.
We've all taken shadow shots - ignore the comment!

Mind you - I might copy this idea on the motorway. ;-)

In fact, those shots have been done since the invention of film... copying my a$$!

Forget that person, Linda. Who of us have not taken a shot (from two years ago) just like that? I know I have, and been tempted to repeat it on numerous occasions. It almost makes me want to do a series out of spite...

And, by the by, I love the traffic/driving/time lapse... Colors always seem to turn out vibrant with a shot like this...

I've just looked at your picture from 2 years ago, damn. I'll have to delete my plughole pictures now!
I also looked at your picture from last year, I've seen that film, is it called 'The Shining'?
