Poppy 2 06_25_05.jpg

Last Summer Wanda sprinkled a wildflower seed mix out in the small oak wood area in our backyard. Not a single flower came up because of the severe drought last summer. Today she noticed this one lone poppy. She came and got me to photograph it for her.

Steve, I shot this in Av mode with -1 exposure bias dialed in and then +1/3 Flash Exposure Compensation added. I used the 550EX flash with my Lumiquest Pro 80/20 with a gold reflector in it and the soft diffuser added. More than anything I wanted to darken the background and that is why the negative exposure bias. Wanda held the stem forward and picked up just a spot of sun light from though the tree top canopy. Most of the detail comes from using that super sharp Tamron 180 macro stopped down to f/16.

Bill, what settings did you use on your flash? The flash seems to add a lot of detail to this. Very nice image.
