Sometimes I hate rain.
Sure, it brings life to everything around us, including ourselves. But, on a climbing trip, it's just not welcomed. Especially if you woke up at 5 AM.
Ed and I traveled up to Rumney, New Hampshire, from New Jersey. Did I mention it was 5 AM? I've been looking forward to this trip for weeks. The sky looked treatening, even at 5 AM.
The drive was pleasant, fueled by a "Great One" (24 oz.) Dunkin' Donuts hazelnut coffee...skim milk, sugar. The coffee was necessary because it was 5 AM.
To nourish our tired bodies, we made 2 separate McDonald's stops. I'm happy they were 24 hour places, it being 5 AM and all.
It was pouring by the time we got up here. We packed our gear in hopes of finding a steep enough climb that would stay dry in the down-pour. The hike up the steep trails was tough from being up since 5 AM.
I did manage to take my camera out long enough to capture this image of Ed as we sat under the seeping rock.
Even though our climbing was limited today, I'm happy that I got out of bed since I got to know Ed better through hours of conversation. He put a lot of effort into planning this trip and many more friends will benefit as they make their ways up here over the next day or so.
It was a good day, all in all, even though it started at 5 AM.
