For all of you... good guesses. It is I, Luke, who took this mysterious image. I saw the bird one day on the way to work and returned the next morning with my Tokina 400mm attached to the Maxxum 5. I finished an entire roll and hopefully some will be worthy of this month's project - Flight! Of course, one would not have guessed me as it is far removed from my "usual" style!

Ok, I am going to officially guess Duke and then if that is wrong, perhaps the photographer would like to end the supense and tell us who took this shot.

The Great Egret (Casmerodius albus)
Distinguished from the snowy egret by its greater size (wingspan can be over 50 inches), its yellow bill, and black legs and feet, the great egret can be spotted on Assateague from spring through fall, often along the main road at the edge of the water in a marsh.

While great egrets spend the winter from South Carolina southward, they can be found as far north as Massachusetts in the summer. Their nests, made up of reeds and sticks, are often high up in trees and may harbor as many as five or six eggs. In the breeding season, both males and females exhibit long back plumes that were once valued in the feather trade.

Egrets are excellent fishermen who stand motionless in the water waiting for fish, although snakes, frogs, or some insects may be added to their diet.

Can anyone tell what kind of bird that is? The type of bird might give us a clue to the photographer. I thought maybe Duke, but he likes just a bit more contrast. Somebody guessed April on another bird shot, so I am going to take a first stab with April.
