4th

(TABs are Copies)
4th Armored Division:

The 4th Armored Division was activated on April 15th, 1941,
with Headquarters at Pine Camp, New York, and provided cadres
for two other Armored Divisions before being sent overseas.
After two changes of station and participating in maneuvers
in 1942 in Tennessee and in 1943 at the Desert Training Center
in California and Nevada, the Division embarked for the
European Theater in December of 1943.

The 4th Armored Division fought in five campaigns, 230 days
of combat, and earned great praise including General Patton's,
who stated that the accomplishment of the 4th Armored Divison
"had never been equalled in the history of warfare." The 4th
Divison had no official nickname because the Commanding General
refused to propose any in the belief that, "They shall be known
by their deeds alone."
