This was a shot I had wanted to take for a while.
In the village next to where our house is being built (Hatton of Fintray), there’s a war memorial
standing off the road in a field. It's bordered off by sitting on top of a wall and fenced in. It
looks very impressive for a memorial in such a small village.
We were going past, and at the last minute I finally found somewhere to stop the car so I could get
the shot. Even at it’s widest angle the Oly struggled. In the end I found myself on top of a dry
stane dyke (a stone wall – it wasn’t a euphemism for anything), next to someones garden whilst
shooting over the road.
It was all wrong. The strong sunlight made the shadow detail impossible to see, and if I looked to
include it, I’d blow out the sky. So I went for a mid-tone, and converted to B&W. If I ever get
round to it I’ll head back with a better lens, and nicer light, as I don’t think I did it justice!
The extra for today can be found here!
