07-05-05 hatton of fintray

This was a shot I had wanted to take for a while.

In the village next to where our house is being built (Hatton of Fintray), there’s a war memorial
standing off the road in a field. It's bordered off by sitting on top of a wall and fenced in. It
looks very impressive for a memorial in such a small village.

We were going past, and at the last minute I finally found somewhere to stop the car so I could get
the shot. Even at it’s widest angle the Oly struggled. In the end I found myself on top of a dry
stane dyke (a stone wall – it wasn’t a euphemism for anything), next to someones garden whilst
shooting over the road.

It was all wrong. The strong sunlight made the shadow detail impossible to see, and if I looked to
include it, I’d blow out the sky. So I went for a mid-tone, and converted to B&W. If I ever get
round to it I’ll head back with a better lens, and nicer light, as I don’t think I did it justice!

The extra for today can be found here!

I like this image a lot. For me, there's a lonely feel to it...not sad, just lonely...

Hi there, just discovered this and it interested me as we can trace our family to Hatton of Fintray, 1781 and before. All the family were born in Fintray and I would love to see more of the area if you have it. Would also love to see a photo with the trees in leaf. Thank you very much - the names on the memorial would be worth a look as well. With best regards.

That road is always closed recently as they try and repair some of the giant pot holes! I had to get a new wheel bearing after hitting one.
