This is just south of Carderock, near mile 9. In front of us is lock 13 or 14, and the American Legion bridge that takes Interstate Highway 495 over the canal and the Potomac from Maryland to Virginia. This lock is one of the "Seven Locks" that are located close to each other and change the elevation of the canal by over 50 feet.
