December 20: Rode Hard, Put Away Wet

Rancho Bernardo, CA

While digging through my hall closet (looking for wrapping paper) I chanced upon this long-forgotten venerable Canon A-1 dating back to 1979.

Note the broken battery door and damaged front of the lens. Should I repair it or put it to rest?

Tech notes: This is a quickie PaD. Note the high quality white background better known as quilted Bounty! ;-)

I tried out my preset black and white feature on the Canon 20D and like the results.

Canon EOS 20D ,Canon EF 28-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM
1/10s f/14.0 at 30.0mm iso800 with Flash full exif

other sizes: small medium large original auto

Yeah! Bounty is my favorite paper towel. DO you use the select-a-size or the regular? Aren't they just awesome paper towels? Love the camera by the way.

Robin I'll have to write that down, another use for quilted Bounty.

Quite nice machine,
I think you should repair it, may one that you decide to use it for the fun!!!!
P.S. About that supermarket ...it was not that building on the photo, that was a private house, the supermarket was behind my car...it is almos from the same size...but a newer building :-)....regards my friend.

Where do you put the memory card???? ")

Just an amazing texture surrounding the main subject here Robin. It has a shallow yet interesting depth to the repeating pattern, almost a pinpoint sharpness to it. It appears very absorbent as well. A useful prop :)

Oh yeah, that's a great shot of a well loved (albeit abused) camera. like your choice of BW.

Neat idea for a background :) Looks like an antique.

I still have my AE-1 from 1978 and it still works. I had an AT-1 from that same time but I sold it after a few years. ...lots of memories.

Served you well, lay it to rest.
Gary Winters20-Dec-2004 19:54
Don't throw it away! Give it to me. I'm going to start collecting old cameras, which I find fascinating. So if you're REALLY going to discard it, I'll take it off your hands.

The Bounty is very cool. (grin)

Did you use it for self defense?

I have one of those from my newspaper days. Didn't realize it is so ancient.

By the way, what did you DO to this poor thing?
Gayle P. Clement20-Dec-2004 16:41
I don't think it's quite museum quality.
