2:48 PM

2:48 PM. After almost 40 minutes of wondering through the tufa field scouting shots, I was getting somewhat discouraged by the bad, cloudy, afternoon light. However, an amazing display of altocumulus clouds developed overhead and to the east, creating an unreal texture over much of the sky. I composed this image to emphasize the breadth of the sky, but also give a sense of great depth and distance with the disparate tufas; one very close, and one very, very far away. The clouds were largely gone within 7 minutes. How fleeting these moments can be! 1/350 sec, f/6.7
