September 26, 2004: Over San Francisco International Airport

San Francisco Airport

I must admit I am chortling about the comments on Saturday’s image of Half Dome. It seems that no one caught the fact that my vantage point was from an airplane at about 10,000 feet altitude.
My good friend Jack Loftis and I took a tour in a Cessna 182 from Palo Alto to Yosemite, hopped up to Petaluma for lunch, and then back over San Francisco to Palo Alto.
Click NEXT once to see a view of downtown SF, and then NEXT again to restudy the aerial shot of Yosemite.
This is Jack maneuvering us over SFO at 2000 feet. That is runway 28/10 just outside, and then you can see the South Bay in the distance.

I'm loving all these aerials. They make me dizzy, but I love them.

Nice... My buddy, and I used to fly to Tahoe for the day those were the times!

Good one RObin. The pilot, his equipment, his view, in short - his world!

I guess is nice to know your "secrets" so that I can try something like this later. Actually you gave an idea, if I could do it soon, I`ll tell you ;-)

You should not tell all secrets about your pictures, Robin. I could for sure tell on many of them when you "cheated" somewhat. To old hare in the busineees to fake me on such things. Loved by the way the mirror shot on the Golden Gate. This one here is nice done.

RE: Yosemite...see my comment, made before visiting this one.

This is an impressive stitch job. Unlikely I would have noticed it without your mentioning it. So cool to have a pilot with a plane for a friend. A 45 minute trip over the city costs about $110 now, minimum two people.

Doug.. the image is really 3 taken within 5 seconds of each other. Changed the focus each time. Then I stitched!!! Good catch!

Nice shot... I am amazed at how well everything is in focus at F4.. were you shooting Manual? or was this the camera meter...

This is a really awesome shot Robin, but I think I'm feeling a little queasy, A lot queasy.

How I envy you, yet so excited because yes it does feel like one is right there with you. I love it.
