12th September 2004 = on the wall in the Bell and Hare

We (the Spurs) were at home today so we (DM and me) were at the game. I didn’t get much chance for a hot action shot because my G3 is temporarily residing in Stokenchurch with my folks who borrowed it to go to the Notting Hill Carnival with on the Bank Holiday. So, no player photos today. Not that the game was all that exciting – a 0-0 draw against a team we should have easily beaten if we really are champions league contenders. Ah well, never mind, there’s always our next away game at Chelski to show our prowess…..or the next home game against Moan Utd!!!

I borrowed the G2 from DM and took two shots, one where he looked like a miserable sod and this is the other. I quite like it because it kind of sets the tone for the match. Most of these pints are what are jokingly called ‘wife beater’ or Stella Artois. I know very well that wife beating is no laughing matter so please don’t take me to task about the expression – it’s not mine. The reason for mentioning it is that you will (well the eagle eyed anyway) notice that there are two that look different, one very black pint of Guinness Extra Cold and the one behind it belonging to Olly, a pint of Fosters. He got married over the summer and now can’t bring himself to drink Stella because of its nickname.

We have a little pre-match ritual, involving going into the pub and debating how many rounds to buy in a single go. The beers that are not in the hands of our crowd get lined up along the wall until the glasses in the hands are empty. It is usually necessary to fish out a few insects or worse from the froth before taking your first sip of a pint that’s been on the wall for half an hour.

It was a good day out other than the scoreline – the first sighting of the lesser-spotted Olly – a rare tropical creature whose habitat recently has been Mexico (honeymoon) and deepest Kent for a cricket tour. He tells us that he won’t be missing again. Ha – we’ll see about that! The guys were all on good form. Sarah and I had a good discussion about ‘stuff’ and the Bell and Hare crowd were welcoming as always.

Mind you, DM, Sarah and I made a pact early on in the day – we agreed not to remind one another about the events of our last meeting – it was thought by all that our exploits were consigned to the annals of history!!!

And the wasps! You don't want to swallow one of those. Good Luck to Spurs, my favourite London club.

Whew! From the thumb I was afraid this was the drugging test lab at the Olympics. :)

Nice line up. i like the contrasting colors.
Oh and over here there is a name for the sleeveless tee-shirts a man wears - "wife-beaters" ... I'm thinking it's because most of the people arrested on the reality show "Cops" are wearing them and are in trouble for domestic violence.
