Unwilling to waste a day sitting on the ground in the smoke, waiting for the weather to improve, I call ahead to our next stop in the Paradise Valley near Yellowstone; the weather reported there is moderately encouraging: overcast, 20 miles visibility, light rain. We take off and make an immediate turn to follow the highway west and south to Eddie's Corner. There we hang a left and follow another two-lane toward Judith Gap, never getting above 500' and never seeing so much as a hint of the Big Snowy Mountains on our left or the Little Belt Mountains on our right.
