We went on a 6.5 mile hike through Huntsville State Park. I lugged 15lbs of camera gear the whole way determined to find some wildlife. With the camera's memory card still empty about 3/4 of the way through, there was some rustling in the leaves right beside our feet. Not exactly the wildlife we were hoping to see, but it was still neat! It seemed pretty docile, so I took a few pics from different angles around it. I'm not big on snake trivia, but the bright colors did seem a bit menacing... Shoot first, ask questions later though, right? So I got home that afternoon and in my research, quickly and repeatedly found the phrase "Red against yellow kills a fellow". Turns out that the Texas Coral Snake is a member of the cobra family and has the deadliest venom of any reptile in Northern America (according to: http://www.tsha.utexas.edu/handbook/online/articles/view/CC/tdc1.html) All turned out well though. The snake and us went our seperate ways unharmed. I did read that they are nocturnal and sightings are quite rare, so it turned out to be pretty cool even if it was the only wildlife we saw!
