Faustian Palette by Fred

The man on the picture is the German author Johann Wolfgang von Goethe. His most famous work is doubtlessly Faust, but apart from writing poetry and novels, he was also interested in science and in 1810 he published the color theory I'm referring to in the picture. The triangle in the image is an important part of his theory. He held that the colours at the vertices of the triangle (blue, red and yellow) were the three primary ones, all other colours being mixes of those three. The allusion to Andy Warhol I made simply because he was interested in Goethes theory and painted a portrait of him. If you're interested you can have alook at it here: http://www-user.tu-chemnitz.de/~adams/pop-art/slide-2.2.html

G'day Fred,
I won't profess to have any idea what this is about, but I assume it's intriguing nonetheless. It satisfies the theme very well and is artictically appealing. Thanks for making my poor old brain churn this one over.
Cheers, John

Hi Philip,
Thanks for reminding me. I did forget to give the solution to "Copernican Turn", so I just posted a message to that picture that explains it.

Fred. Once again you are going to make me think. Love the photo. (You never did say what the "message" was in your entry to Challenge 10.)

Hi Claudio,
Actually I was originally thinking of doing something with Johannes Itten's color wheel, so your bet wasn't that bad, but I decided to play a bit with this more "unknown" theory instead. The possibility to make an allusion to Warhol was the main reason (I'm impressed that you cracked that one). Good old Andy was interested in this man's color theory and, as you probably know, actually made a painting of its originator, but he used another portrait than the one I have used.

Cool! Andy Wharol meets the theory of colors.. I could have bet your were going to go for Itten's theory, which is also very relevant for photography, but you surprised me here!. I have to admit that I don't know much about this aside from its existance.. will try to find out more.
