Joop's Dog Log - Monday May 31

Humans need signs.
They are lost without them.
Take away their signs and they would do the strangest things. Just look at this situation here:
a bend in a country road. And a gate at the entrance of a cow pasture.
Someone must have been afraid that humans could think the road goes on through that gate.
So they put up a sign that sais "doorgaand verkeer" ("through traffic").
It points in the direction where the road is.
This is in the north of Groningen, between Zoutkamp and Houwerzijl.
My humans and I had a good walk there yesterday. Maybe we'll have another one today.
It's White Monday, the second day of Pentecost.
The Dutch need two days for all of these big holidays.
They want to make sure. Like they do with their signs...

It`s a holiday here too, Joop. Memorial Day which was begun a long time ago to honor our war dead. Then it became a day to go to the cemetary and put flowers on family graves. But now, it`s pretty much just another day to take off work. Oh, and watch to the Indianapolis 500, if auto racing is yr thing. It`s the unofficial beginning of summer, which lasts until Labor Day on the first week of September. It`s going to be a long summer! I hope you get in lots of good walks, beginning tomorrow. Mark away, Joop!

Here in Brazil we have a bunch os signs that are useless and yet once in a while someones says "Glad that sign was there, otherwise I would be lost". People became lazy to look things for themselves, to ask other people the right directon... they are afraid to tell themselves that their are lost. Now... picture my human in Italy all by herself understaing a very few words in italian... in that case the signs that she saw were chinese to her... :) Anyways... sorry for my huge text here... sometimes I get lost in my own world here... Have a great week Joop!! Hope you get your another walk... au au au

That`s what humans need dogs for! What humans would be without your good noses? They would be completely lost all the time... This is why dogs are men`s best friend!! Have a nice week! Oliver & Co.

Too funny....we often come along a small forest where the deer, the racoon, maybe the wildpigs, the foxes and all their puppies should live in peace: for many years a sign said : THIS IS THE KINDERGARDEN OF NATURE, do not disturb!
The other day we found this sign cut down on the ground laying midst crashed wood and saw the so called leasuretime hunter from the city training their hunting hounds right thier in front of that kindergarden: VERY peaceful! Humans are crank, somewhat strange or do they raise deer and other wild living animals in that kindergarden of nature for the hunters???? Would look like the chicken KZ in green disguise.....Hope your humans are through with painting..and take care of your fur! Laquer on the hair means much more stinky stuff get it off...tomorrow is another day!

As the Nannish one told you, we have a holiday here, too. Kind of a bar-b-que and beer holiday for many humans...though its real purpose is to honor all the fallen soldiers in our country. Has a certain sadness tinged with anger to it this year, as I sure you understand, dear Joop. gwb went to the new WWII memorial to give a speech and today did something else at another site. That`s part of the anger thing...why are our poor young people dying in Iraq for his foolishness and stupidity. Yes, I am angry...and sad.

This was brilliant wraparound logic, just like yesterday, which scared me. Enjoy your holiday, Joop. I`ve been entertaining friends---and a new one, a Welsh Springer Spaniel youngster, pictures to come! -Sarah.

It makes me laugh. As if anyone would drive into the pasture instead of on the road... Well, maybe some drunk Belgians might...
