"Typical day in Arcadia," or perhaps a better title is, "Fish out of Water." The peacocks are a common sight there - protected creatures who now roam the surrounding neighborhoods of the Los Angeles County Arboretum. I suppose at one time they were a rarity - today they can be a nuisance. They screech, they eat the flowers in the garden, and they're slow moving (unless you want a picture of them in which case they run like the wind).

And yet...they can provide sweet sights such as a mother peacock strolling down the suburban street with her little chicks following her. Then there is the young male attempting to get the attention of a female, strutting and preening and shaking his body...without the grand feathers yet. My sister and I always chuckle at that. It's so...human.

Interesting.

Out on Pine Island, at Bokeelia, there's a move afoot to get rid of these let-loose pests. I know I'd be pissed off if I was kept awake by their screaming all night and the poop on my car...Cape Coral had monitor lizards, for pete's sake!! Boca Grande has iguanas....sheesh!

Laughing at your commentary. Yes they seem to suddenly have speed when a camera is pointing at them.
