8th May 2004 - unexpected pleasure

Footie today – the last home game of the season so no more WHL for three months or so during the close season.

It’s weird – it feel like only five minutes since we first took up our seats for this campaign and now, here we are, it’s all over bar the shouting. We have only one game left, against Wolves away next weekend. They’re already down and we are safe so I expect we will let our guard down and get a thumping – that’s what usually happens at this stage of the season.

How different today has been compared to the same fixture last year – then we took a 0-4 thumping and the fans were throwing their season tickets onto the pitch in disgust. This year, despite a terrible season we’ve had good support and today was no exception.

And guess what? We won! OK – it was only a 1-0 win but there are many fantastic things about that….firstly we didn’t concede a goal – that’s a good thing as our defence has been woeful for much of the season. Secondly, we scored a goal – the little lad pictured here was the scorer of the goal, Jermain Defoe.

Our day has been fantastic – a good result and a birthday celebration for Olly who was 30 yesterday. Happy Birthday Olly.

Sarah and I will be back next season with another recruit….David will be with us as a season ticket holder too. How cool is that? I never expected to convert him so comprehensively to footie or, for that matter, to the Spurs.

So, it’s goodbye to WHL until August. However many times we’ve wobbled this season on the pitch, our love for the Spurs hasn’t wavered or crumbled and we will be walking back out onto the terraces in August to live to see us fight another day. Next year? Who knows. A European slot? Or another relegation battle?

A European slot, of course!

You can see more of the game and more of the Bell and Hare here!

You never cease to amaze me with your ability to read people and capture a moment so perfectly. I even hope for you that your team gets into the big league next year (as long as they don't beat Real Madrid!).

Looks like from this angle you were refereeing the match Linda. My last football game in the UK was Sunderland vs West Ham and I still think I've got the scarf tucked away somewhere. My memory is of a cold, concrete bench and everybody standing for the entire game. Certainly not baseball . Cheers!

Ya.. the first thing that struck me too were the faces... Just amazing. and there is so much detail in each. Wow!

The thing that stands out the most to me is all those faces!!! Not one of them is turned away from watching the players!! Great shot, Linda!

There are still some places left in the inter-toto cup I understand ;-)
