Too much work today to go looking for a good subject, so I had to settle for this farming 'contraption' I saw in a field. I intended it to be a mono image from the start, wanting to try for a grainy effect (like Ilford HP5 film). This was then taken a stage further by trying for a pencil drawing effect, using the Paintshop Pro 7 'black pencil' effect. I kept it subtle by using virtually the minimum settings and I am quite pleased with the result of the experiment. I am a little less happy with the actual subject (which is why I felt the need to tinker with it!), so I am now keeping my eye open for a really good subject to use this effect on.

AAARGH !! I'm becoming a PS(P) junkie ! I will get back to straight shots tomorrow (maybe).

I am new to using these effects, so please let me know your thoughts on my experimental tamperings - it will help me learn how to use them properly. Comments, good or bad, are always welcome.

Hmmm, where can I lay my hands on a copy of Photoshop ;-)

You really raked in a good idea here. I like the b&w.

That's a great rendering of an interesting contraption. If you want to get your hands on PS without paying big $$$ at first, many scanners, printers or digital cameras usually include a copy of PS LE when you buy them. A good excuse to buy a new toy?

Great shot! B&W works very well here.

Cool effect. Have been playing around with high ISO and B&W setting to try to duplicate
my favorite old film TriX. Some good results.

I thought the texture was too rich to be the origial, but I had to stare hard for quite awhile. You have an excellent recipe there and thanks for detailing it. I like the effect very much...it enhances the photo considerable but is quite subtle.
