Apr 15: Circus

I walked down to the Bank this afternoon. It was a nice day, and I thought the walk would do me good. On route, I noticed several of these posters advertising a circus. I didn't know they still existed. I have a vague memory of going to a circus with my grandparents sometime around 1970, and they (circus acts not my grandparents) were regularly on TV around that time. But how do they compete in a world full of TV, PlayStation, cinema, DVD, the internet. I mean, it's not *that* entertaining watching clowns acting out the same routines over and over? Or is it? Is circus the new rock 'n' roll? Or maybe it's now 'New Circus'?? Either way, I don't think we'll be going.

Robert Brothers Famous Circus? Famous where? I've never heard of them, but then I couldn't name any circus anyway. Maybe they should be called 'renowned'.....

I don't know what the NEW CIRCUS has to offer, but I don't care much for them anyway.

Cool nostalgic sign though!

Never did like the circus as a kid, too smelly plus I know plenty of clowns :)

BUT they are not all about animals these days! We took one of our boys to an 'electric circus' sometime around his 3rd birthday. There were no animals in sight, in fact it was a bit like a West End show. The little man was so excited that he couldn't manage a sleep beforehand, so he fell asleep in the interval just before the 'new age' clowns started and missed the best bit! Great for children, but not my cuppa tea!

Wow, I agree, I don't see how they can stay popular with all of the "newer" ways to entertain ourselves... and LOL @ Linda's comment!

I never had the misfortune to go to one, but not only have they more competition with all these other things, but also some circus people find it impossible to abide by the strict regulations many local authorities have when it comes to the animals. And attitudes have changed too; we are now all too wary of how the animals may feel...
