The red, inviting berry is a favorite in our house. I've noticed over time that the enjoyment of them is a process, a series of little pleasures. First, there is the sight of the box in produce section or at a stand. Then there's the purchase, the anticipation of them. Once home, there's the removal of the plastic cover, the washing, then the careful cutting away of the green leaves. Finally, there's eating. You might find sweetness, or tartness if they're too green. We might put sugar on top...perhaps some ice cream...or cream. Maybe if the night is very special, we might dump some sugared strawberries on top of pound cake.
I think pure is best, though. Nothing extra. Straight, unblemished, unadulterated strawberry.
