auxiliary crankcase vent...via the cam cover

here is the way I added to the plastic separator PCV system. I drilled the cam cover for a brass elbow; drilled the turbo inlet elbow for a brass elbow; and plumbed in a 5/8 ID vent hose. That basically doubled the cross-sectional diameter of the vent hose to the turbo inlet.

I had previously replumbed the OE vent hose to the turbo elbow: using a brass elbow the replace the restricted bend of the OE hose going into the turbo inlet elbow.

With the block mounted plastic vapor separator, and the added vent at the cam cover, all the oil leaks disappeared. And the oil being pumped into the turbo inlet elbow from the block vent almost completely stopped. All this on a '83 B21FTi with over 250,000 miles on it at that time.

UPDATE...

I tried this modification on the Streak. And it did not work...worth a hoot.

[Well......actually it DID work as far as stopping the seepage/wetness. BUT, another problem started occurring: oil consumption.]

[and creating a new problem while solving an old problem does not constitute 'success' in my view.]

It took me a while to figure out just why that was.

I finally did figure out why: I had eliminated the angled plastic piece [the one with the small vacuum tee that doesn't go to the intake on the B21FTs] on the first install. I hadn't eliminated it when I did the install on the Streak. [I forgot to eliminate the 'nipple']

Long story short: I decided to do an auxiliary vent setup for the Streak in a different manner: I put together a catch can setup for the Streak, and did eliminate that stupid worthless angled plastic tube...and it works GREAT!!!

I'll be putting up a gallery on the catch can setup; in which I will show and explain just why the nipple needs to be modified or eliminated.

NOTE: The new gallery, 'improving crankcase ventilation' is up.
