Joop's Dog Log - Thursday Feb 12

`What is it about these leaders with names that begin with a "b" —
Bush, Blair, Berlusconi, Balkenende...` Flint is right!
Balkenende is our Dutch "B". Prime minister. Semi-conservative. Small human in big suit.
Seems to have a bad hair day every day. Very Dutch, bit stiff, not a swinger, you know the type.
Now his (our) government is in the process of kicking out tenthousands of `foreigners`,
refugees that don`t have a visa. They came here when our immigration laws were not so tough.
Many of them have been living here 5 or 10 years, waiting for a decision on their visa application.
Their children speak Dutch. Many have jobs, businesses. Some of them even have a Dutch dog!
But now they have to leave. "Them foreigners have to go, they`re taking our jobs", etc.,
you know the rhetoric. And most Dutch humans agree.
So that’s our "B". Know any other big "B"-s, good or bad?

This is me in front of our house, under our neighbour’s redwood.
It a foreign immigrant tree. Hope it has a visa.
I’d hate to see that tree get kicked out!

"Maybe that´s got to do with some kind of primitive instinct of the humans... `B` seems to be one of the first sound they pronouce... or so I´ve heard. I think humans are like that: they complain about everything, but keep one repeting the same mistakes over and over... What do you think about it, Joopie?
By the way, about that picture the other day... er... I agree with you about being a waste if you intend to mark your territory. But we, ladies, tend to `focus` a bit more... :)" Magali

That sounds all too familiar. I teach at a school that has a bunch of children of migrant workers from Mexico. Most of these kids were born in the US, but they live in fear that their parents will be sent back because they came here illegally. Most are honest and hard-working families. Seems wrong, somehow, to kick them out.

Hi Joop, well my humans had two dogs before whose names started with B, they were mostly good I think, though I never met them! One of them was an immigrant from the US, but she had papers to allow her into Canada, and was duly registered in her new country...
I watched a program on CBC last night about Honduran immigrants who try to escape their situation by riding the trains north to the US and Canada. Here is a link to one boy`s story, although I`m not sure how it turned out in the end, will need to tune in next week. I think his deportation order was squashed, but he is still trying to gain official landed immigrant status.

Hi Joop....had to think it over, but the German government seems to be clean...no bad "B" at the moment. Reactions like your mentioned above have become popular regarding the "guestworkers" the bosses once called to come and help to build up the German industry image again and young brainless people founded groups singing the Nazi-Horror-hymns again. But, the last thing a German government can risk is to send immigrants back or away in an open procedure....we all know that lots of persuedes found asylum everywhere in the world.....
In private life, the "B"s always played an important role..I am a "B" from the neighbourhood.

I still think the US "B" tops the list, in terms of power and stupidity and mis-representation of the people, but yours sounds almost as infuriating. Humans can so easily (apparently) lose touch with all humanity and do the most inhuman things to one another. I`ve never known a dog to have such problems. Joop, you ever know someone to behave in such an incanine manner?

Question: are we `material` for your human`s radio show...which is fine, kind of cool in fact. Just wondering?

Haaa haaaa haaaaa. Actually I don`t even know what kind of radio show your human does, Joop. I am kind of curious...he does raise very provocative issues on your dog-flog, so I assume it is probably an `issue-based kind of show.
And, no, unfortunately, or fortunately, dependintg on how you look at it...you are not material for my work since I am retired. You, my dear Joop, are material for my enjoyment. And that is much, much better.

Hey, Joop, have your human look here, then at Buntekuh`s posts about the European Union`s language change thing. It`s a riot.

Joop, the only nice big "B" I can think of is Barney the purple dinosaur! I`m glad you are more friendly towards all types of humans than some humans are.

Joop, I`m honored that you would quote me! I don`t think I`ve ever been QUOTED before, although my humans have on occasion IMITATED me (my howls, snores, etc. -- I put up with their merriment at my expense). Offhand I can think of one nice "B," and that`s one of my humans, a.k.a. BVD! But in general it`s sad that humans have to have so much strife in their world. Why can`t they just relax and play on a beautiful street like the one in your picture -- why can`t they just stop and sniff the roses?

Well, my name starts with a B and I don`t think I`m too bad, at times :)
It does seem wrong to change the rules of the game mid-stream. If they want tougher immigration laws, okay, but apply them to people wanting to come in now, not the ones who arrived & complied with previous laws.
To Wabana, if they`re so "honest" they wouldn`t have entered the country illegally and now be afraid of deportation.

We do have a very dis-honorable B here in US. Sometimes I think he breaks my moms` hearts. So worried about borders, and that stupid defense of marriage acts he keeps pushing. Very uncanine and very inhumane, too. I hope your tree is safe. I bet some of the people being deported have roots as deep. This is a very nice photo of you.
