Clear Creek State Forest

With the now familiar words, “Honey, I’ll be back in 30 minutes, I’m going to go for a short drive to shoot some landscapes” my odyssey began. It would be 7 hours until I returned…LOL

First I meandered my way along back road in my Jeep, jumping out now and then to capture a scene. In amazement I ended up a good 30 miles north of where I began. I parked at a trail that ran along the Allegheny River at Kennerdale. Intending to just go for a short stroll along the bank of the river I eventually ran into a young couple than mentioned how great an over look there was on the ridge. Of course I just HAD to hike up the trail, even though it was covered in snow and no one had gone that way all winter…

The view was stunning, but now I had to hike back out. Instead of going back the way I had come (I already knew what was there to shoot) I searched for an alternate route. My short stroll ended up being about 8 miles!! LOL

Wow! Great shot... In my house it's "I'll just be on the computer for a few minutes!" Yea, right!

Ray, yes I had water and was also wearing my hiking clothes so I was also very toasty. (A little too toasty at times...)

Oh she was mad all right but when I explained my cell battery had died...

As for finding a new way down, you never know what you may find ahead. What if my PAD had been one taken after this?? LOL

This is a fine photograph. Nice framing with the silhouetted trees. I think I might have stuck to the same trail out having got THE image of the day here. And gotten home for some dinner and warmth. What an understanding wife you have. Or did you leave something out...? :)

Worth the long trek, wasn't it? Did you have any food or drink with you? It reminded me of Symonds Yat on the English/Welsh border which pales into insignificance with this.
