I can say that I am absolutely happy with this camera.
I have used the MZ-5N before and felt familiar with the operation
of the *ist D from the first moment, mostly due to the fact that
the access to the most important functions is direct and easily done,
a feature that I already highly appreciated with my MZ-5N.
After the firmware update offered by Pentax I can now use my
old K and M lenses as well. That was one of the very few points
of criticism I had before.
The DA 16-45 mm surprised me with its sharpness and colors and good
build quality as compared to the 18-35 mm which I had bought together with
the *ist D and which I returned for the 16-45 mm. I am very happy now
with this extended range of focal lengths also.
I also would like to point out to my second favorite lens, the FA 24-90 mm which
gives astonishing results on the *ist D and to the old F 70-210 mm, which
I bought second-hand and which is also working very well on that camera.
There are some small issues discussed in the various forums such as
- Up/down/left/right/OK buttons too small
- CF compartment is also quite small
but as far as I am concerned, I can live with that very well.
I hope that I could help you with the above. As an old Pentax user, you will not
go wrong purchasing the equipment, so I think.

Just curious - how do you like this lens? It has been advertised in our country (USA) but is not available yet. How do you like the camera as well? I am a long time Pentax user and am considering to purchase both. Thanks!
