Your photos reveal a good eye. Your choise of evening light is wise.

You may wish to experiment with manual settings by selecting "spot" metering, measure the brightest important area of the scene (eg., luminous sunset cloud), then add two stops to the indicated exposure.

This action places the clouds, or any bright area of choise, on what Ansel Adams called Zone VII, white (or bright) with important texture. Your colors will retained, only brighter.

It's the same as tuning the digital exposure by moving the LCD display histogram graph to the right side of the display after the shot, only this way one does the "exposure tuning" before the shot. It becomes second nature and with instant feedback you acquire what took others months to get...an eye for exposure.

The tiny 1 degree spot reads things as middle gray. Adding two stops (sometimes even 2.5 stops) moves the "middle gray" of the bright clouds to where they belong AND brings up the shadows to the best level they can record.

Caucasian skin is 1 to 1.5 stops added exposure so no back-lit scene will ever defeat you. Just measure the cheek, add 1 to 1.5 stops and fire away.

All this assumes that one wants a full range scene to be recorded.

Sorry for the speech but you have the eye and a good sense of what a good camera (PENTAX) and a good value is.
