Never overlook the element of luck. I was driving the roads at the wildlife refuge looking for subjects and had already passed by this spot three times. On the fourth time I spotted this Great Blue Heron and he cooperated by staying while I shot a series of images. This was during winter with lots of ice on the lake and the bird was drawn to this area by open water; water warmed by the afternoon sun. His patience was soon rewarded; this is the same bird as in the image of a Great Blue Heron having successfully captured a fish for dinner!
