1979

In May of 1979, Jennifer graduated from Nursing School, qualified as a RN. I graduated from Niagara with a MS in Ed. In preparation for our graduations, in March we ordered a brand new Chevrolet Impala, it came in late May, and the day after the kids school was out in June, we loaded up the car, and headed west. We went everywhere west of the Mississippi, every major amusement park, every national park, and just about every state. We got back the night before the kids started school in September. We left home with 2000 miles on our new car, when we got home, we had 22,000 miles on it. After being strangers to each other for two years, it was great to be together again, heading out on the highway, looking for adventure, in whatever came our way. Hmm, sounds lyrical.

This picture was taken at Knott's Berry Farm in California.

We kept that Chevy for over 15 years. It had over 250,000 miles on it; both kids learned to drive in that car; and it never, ever, let us down.

My father bought a used '79 Impala when my sister and I were growing up. It was a fantastic car. My sister and I both learned to drive in it, and it was in several fender-benders. But like yours, it never, ever, let us down. Never a major repair, nor breakdown, until the end.
