Lonnit: Dunno if you'll see this, but I tried to crop to a left-third composition and just couldn't get it to a point I liked. Normally, I try to amend in response to on-target feedback, but this is one I'll chalk up to experience. Always better to get it right on the front end. Thanks. --Joe
I'm sure there's enough room to still keep it technically "wide" if you do cut it. I think the cut would be midway in the dark area.
A YAWN??? Are you nuts! LOL! Couldn't be further from the truth! I think you're only yawning b/c the sun is too centered. This shot has wonderful color and feel! I'm glad you've shared it with us here! ~ Lonnit

The colors and the clarity of this image are what make you go wow! I do think cutting the left side, right in the middle between the left edge and the sun, would work well and still keep the image wide enough. Just my $0.02. --Olaf
Lonnit: Genuine thanks for your comments. Please don't be cautious or deferential in sharing thoughts/critiques. I am just a year into serious photography, and still on a fairly steep part of the curve. Your comment is spot-on. I wasn't thrilled with the composition myself. I just don't know if there is enough "material" for a left-third crop that spills much beyond a 3:2 aspect ratio. I'll give it a think/try, but my sense is this is already a borderline yawn (funny the clarity a night of sleep can offer). I have better raw material elsewhere in my stacks, so I may drop this one entirely. Good suggestion, good eye! Thanks. --Joe
Joe, considering your talent and experience vs mine, I feel weird about making a suggestion, but I'll do it anyway. The color hit me first and I said, "WOW!". But then the next thing that hit me was that it bugged me that the sun was just a little off center, little enough to make it look like it was trying to be centered but didn't make it. I held my hand over the left edge, cropping the shot so that the sun was on the left vertical 3rds line and it really, IMO, helped. The stuff on the left is so dark it has no detail anyway, so you're not losing anything interesting there, just balancing the shot perfectly. I hope you give it a shot and let me know what you think. :) It's a real beauty!! ~ Lonnit, backing off bowing
