here is a closer view of the honed main journals. The new intermediate shaft rear bearing is visible in the background. When a block is hot tanked, the intermediate shaft bearings are damaged; and have to be replaced. And, the nice clean bolt threads for the main bearing cap bolts are also visible. To be able to properly torque the bolts, the threads have to be clean. A thread "chaser" is used: the object is to clean the threads not recut them. And of course, the bolts' threads are also cleaned and lubricated for installation.
