here is a view of the five main bearing journals. They were measured for variation and alignment. They were found to be about a half thou loose regarding how snug the bearing shells would fit in and seat. The decision was made to resize and align-hone the main bearing journals. The resizing of the journals assures that the bearings are properly seated and held in place. The line boring assures that the crank is cradled in its bearings that are in a straight line: the five journals are honed at the same time with the same tool. No out of round or out of alignment problems to worry about; especially since the crank was checked and turned 10-10.
