Bristlecone at the Patriarch Grove

Here, at 11,000 feet altitude, the rugged landscape is home to the hardiest bristlecones. This one, which would appear to be lifeless, has a few strips of green running up it's backside, all it needs to survive, while the dead bark serves to protect the living portion of the tree from the fiece winds of winter.

omg what a cool bark here. THe deep rich blue of the sky and the bark almost appears artistic in the way it is captured here. Incredible. I think that is my favored so far.
