The photo was taken beneath the Hagnau viaducts with the Birs River in the foreground, which here forms the border between the municipalities of Basel and Muttenz.
Above the river are the flyovers of the A2/A3/E35, the main artery for north-south traffic through the Alps. The railway on the bridge directly above the river is one of the busiest railway junctions in all of Switzerland.
