The Castle of San Marcos is one of the city's most iconic buildings. Its towers and battlements, silhouetted against the sky above El Puerto, create an unmistakable image and are probably one of the oldest representations of El Puerto's architectural landscape.
Its evolution has paralleled local urban development, becoming a symbolic building during different periods, so that what we know today is the product of several transformations since the original construction around the 10th century.
