Plaza de España is the epicenter of life in the historic center of El Puerto de Santa María . Dominated by the impressive building of the Minor Basilica of Our Lady of Miracles , popularly known as La Prioral , the plaza was completely pedestrianized in 2010 , significantly changing its appearance.
The Priory Church is a late Gothic building whose construction began in the 15th century, commissioned by the Dukes of Medinaceli . Like many other buildings of the period, it is built with sandstone from the quarries of the Sierra de San Cristóbal .
